ds games instructions

ok so this is gonna be instructions on how to emulate ds games on the computer and how i use my flashcart :)

* * * DISCLAIMER * * *

i am not an expert on emulation this is what i learned thru googling and such
bc i really wanted to play ds games again

also i am not a lawyer idk how allowed this is . anyways onto tutorial

playing on the computer

this is the easiest & cheapest (free) way to play any ds game you want :)
all you have to do is install the emulator and download files for
the games you want, no messing w files or anything

  1. download & install melonds
  2. download whatever game you want
  3. in melonds > file (top left) click open rom
  4. and now you can play :)

it's rlly easy :)

melonds also has an app currently in beta so you can play on ur phone!
you can use the same files for the games

playing on a flashcart

ok so first of all -- what is a flashcart?

a flashcart is a cartridge for the ds that you can load with your own game files :D

you can buy one fairly cheap on amazon. this is the one i bought
BUT you also need a microsd and a real ds (obviously) to use it

you are also gonna need a way to put files onto the microsd.
you can get a microsd reader & some computers come with sd card readers
but i just put it in my phone and connected it to my laptop with a usb cable

finally ur also gonna need to install a firmware on the cart.
i used Ace3DS which i will link below.
keep in mind different carts might require differnt firmwares.
check the reviews of the one ur buying!

  1. buy your flashcart -- see mine linked above :)
  2. make sure you have a microsd and a way to put files on it
  3. download your firmware-- my linked cart uses Ace3ds Wood v1.62
  4. put the firmware and all the games you want on the sd card
  5. put the sd card into the flashcart and use in ds like a regular cartridge :)

and now you can play whatever you want on your original hardware !!

personally i prefer using a flashcart over emulating on my computer
because i love being able to use the original control scheme
(and nothing beats the beauty of the bright & pixelly ds screen in the dark at 3am)

i hope this tutorial helped you get back some of your old games!! have fun!
